The reason for this list is to show you what I'm comparing the reviewed games to.
For instance someone who doesn't know about the proceeding games except for maybe only Skull Fang which would be the only title he would own, might tell you that Skull Fang is a great game.
As you can see from the list below the reviewed games have to live up to certain standards.
List of games that I own that have "vertical arcade modes":
Saturn:
1 Batsugun
2 Battle Garegga
3 DODONPACHI
4 DonPachi
5 Layer Section (Rayforce/Galactic Attack)
6 Game Paradise/gemu tengoku
7 Gekirindan/Time Travel Shooting
8 Gun Frontier
9 Gunbird
10 Image Fight
11 Kyukyoku Tiger 2 PLUS
12 shienryu
13 Shippu Mahou Daisakusen/Kingdom GrandPrix
14 Skull Fang
15 SONIC WINGS SPECIAL (almost full screen; only a few lines missing)
16 Strikers 1945 part 1
17 Strikers 1945 part 2
Note* Capcom Generation 1,3 & 4 have vertical arcade modes, but Capcom didn't convert (stretch) the original arcade games which have a different resolution as the Saturn's.
This results in top and bottom borders!
These arcade games where released on Capcom arcade system released prior to the CPS-1.
Mercs (Capcom generation 4) however is the only game in all of the 5 volumes that does have a proper fullscreen vertical arcade mode, because that game was originaly released on the CPS-1 Capcom arcade system.
CPS-1 has a 320X240 resolution that corresponds with the Saturn's 320X240 resolution.
The volumes:
Capcom Generation 1 1942, 1943, 1943 KAI (remix of 1943)
Capcom Generation 2 Ghosts 'n Goblins, Ghouls 'n Ghosts & Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Capcom Generation 3 Exed Eyes, Pirate ship Higemaru, Son son, Vulgus
Capcom Generation 4 Commando, Mercs, Gunsmoke
Capcom Generation 5 SF2, SF2', SF2' TURBO
Saturn games that I own that DON'T have "vertical arcade modes":
1 Radiant Silvergun (overrated game which has "at the time of the release great 3D graphics", but is basically a slow and dull game)
2 Soukyu Gurentai (an ok game but like Radiant could've been so much more) This game does features 3 additional soundtracks. It has Mahou Daisakusen, Shippu Mahou Daisakusen & Battle Garegga. And they are all in cd-player format!
3 Steam Hearts (really bad game)
4 Twinbee (Aaargh! Why did Konami do that. Both games in the collection are vertical monitor games. Konami gives us letterbox crap)
Playstation 1 games that I own that have "vertical arcade modes":
1 Raiden DX
2 Raiden Project, the American version, aaaargggh! this version doesn't rotate the controls with the vertical arcade mode.
Including Raiden 2 which was released in 1993. Not a bad game but compared to Sengoku Ace released by Psikyo in the arcades that same year the graphics leave something to be desired.
Not that I don't like like the Raiden Fighters series, but I wish they had released Sengoku Ace on any console!
3 Strikers 1945 part 2 the Japanese version (part 1 was never released for the Playstation).
Dreamcast games that I own that have "vertical arcade modes":
Gunbird 2
Ikaruga
