current progress..

June 11th, 2009

Whoo its been mighty busy over here. Came off  a back to back pair of conventions right after spending the past solid month in the shop making the props you see below, and spent the last week trying to deal with post convention paperwork and such (I particpate in artist’s alleys so believe it or not, theres stuff to do afterwards besides going braindead!)

Between sleep, working on illustrations for the next conventions, working on prop commissions,  I’m still working through emails as we speak, and if the planets align in my favor I might get em mostly done by Sunday! Apologies to those who’ve been waiting a good while for a response, I’m fitting everything in between all the other work, but I havent’ forgotten about you!

Anywhoo, I  was hoping to post more indepth work in progress photos of these, but aiming to compile them when I have the time! In the meantime, I’ve set up a live video feed from the workshop, that I fire up when I’m working. You can see the online status in the top right corner of the blog :) Much thanks to all those who’ve come by and managed to put up with mah silly singing and tomfoolery while building stuff!

I’ve recently updated the site with the latest finished works,  they’re shown below!

Lightning’s sword from the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII

Son Goku’s staff from Saiyuki!

…and some various props from Team Fortress 2!

I’m currently working on the designs for Vega’s claws and a articulated gunblade, and gathering materials for a couple personal projects whle dreaming of the day i can actually put them together to actually make a cosplay gear XD. As i get those going, i’ll document the process for them, but don’t hold your breath, for you’ll surely suffocate!

Anywhoo, just a lil rambling….

quick update

April 28th, 2009

Deadlines are approaching, and so is progress on a group of props currently in progress!

Though I’m repainting parts of the blade for Lightning’s sword, this was the state before stripping the paint…

Tom sent me the aluminum pump handle for the scattergun, so last night I rounded off the edges and primered it, it looks great! That puppy’ll be spring mounted into the body of the scattergun, which is in partial progress

Progress on the shotgun, its almost done thanks to my fiance!

Chakrams are getting cored one by one, and plans and materials have been gathered for a staff based on Sayukias well as parts for Vega’s claw..

Annnd of course, planning out the summer to fall schedule to make sure I don’t wind up swamped again ^^;

Holy updates Batman!

April 13th, 2009

Been pretty laid up the the last couple of days, got some kind of headcold that is messing with the equilibrium, and don’t think its the best of ideas to go and play with pointy sharp objects and power tools. Thankfully its getting a good bit better, but thought it would be a good time to post some updates, answer emails, and straighten things up around here..

First off, I added a alternate email to the inquiry form… save for a couple emails, I responded to everyones, and I’ve been receiving some emails from folks who asked for me to respond, which leads me to think that it either got caught in their spam filter, or the internetz  ate them. I did get a couple bounced emails as well!… those of you who  might not have gotten a response from me, please feel free to hit me again with a secondary email! Thanks!

My significant other noticed that I hadn’t ever posted the props intot he main gallery that had been finished over the past couple of months, and well.. he’s right lol..

Here’s a few links to some finished works!

Double bladed Katana based on Advent Children

Marluxia’s Scythe, “full bloom” based on KH

Scythe based on X/1999

Wrench for TF2 cosplay!

- I also took another swing at those chakrams, instead casting them. WIP photos and some more information on how I went about making the mold and pouring castings can be located here:

There’s a swath of miscellany parts strewn about the basement, and once they start looking like something, I’ll post em.. shuld be toward the end of the week!

Scythe, wrench & chakrams…

March 25th, 2009

Well, I was hoping to be able to update these journals more frequently, I’ve been finding it hard to do so inbetween all the actual prop building, sending out emails, and updating works in progress photos and such.

The scythe from X/1999 is completed, and before sending it out, I made a bit of an improvement to one of the connecting joints that I had a concern over, because the design of the weapon itself would leave a lot of stress on the joint. In the meantime, finished photos are here, along with some of the stages of its construction

Been working on a pair of Chakrams, based on Kingdom Hearts, but the tedium is driving me bats****, and its killing my hands & wrists.  I wonder how far these will fly if i frisbee them off the back porch XD. Going to try a whole different method involving casting, which should be at least partially entertaining, seeing that I never casted anything beyond a couple daggers for my assassin’s creed cosplay..

took a break from the rougher projects and put together a lightweight wrench based on Team fortress 2..
tf2

hmm.. maybe need to declutter/better organize this blog a bit.. just realised I never posted the finished summoner staff, sword, or big pink scythe… um.. I’ll take care of that soon.. yeah -_-;;

Works in progress

March 9th, 2009

Between preparing for Momocon’s woodworking panel, and getting art and whatnot prepared for the dealers tables I reserved, this past week was spent finishing off the plans for all of the props that are due at the beginning of May. Everythings ready to go, so without further ado…

made end segment for scythe!

clamping down face plates

beginnings of TF2 Intel case

Some of the side plates for FFXIII gun/sword. Sorry, but as per request, this is not going to transform!

ready to paint!

“Woodworking with fev” at Momocon!

March 7th, 2009
(don’t look at me, I didn’t name it XD )

Next weekend, I’ll be hosting my very first panel during Momocon! It will be at 7pm Saturday in the workshop room. The panel will be teach you how to make a nice prop wooden katana with sheath using 3 planks of wood, a drill, a saw, a couple files and sandpaper! oh, and glue lol.

Other things’ll that’ll be covered are choosing the best and fairly cheap planks readily available from Lowe’s/Home Depot, laying out your sword, tools & techniques that would make your life easier (but won’t destroy your wallet) and natural wood propmaking (for the artsy fartsy propmaker in you!)

Be there or be square, and I’ll try to make sense!

(Good sized prop WIP update coming tomorrow! )

Back up and running.

February 18th, 2009

Man, I couldn’t be completely inept with this thing, and wanted to give this thing one more try, everybody’s using it, so it can’t be really hard neh?

So after updating this to the latest version, and still having problems, I finally figured out that the theme was what was giving the blog problems and kept formatting the thing oddly when publishing.

So I set up a different theme , and hit -n- missed my way into integrating it into the ol’ prop website :) Installed a nifty archive thingy too, though it took friggin FOREVER because my server is case sensitive, and the uploader I was using was set to format everything it uploads to lower case. How fun. At least this thing works now.

Anywhoo, been real busy working on plans for a batch of various props for the next few months, and hope to get a few personal things worked on as well.

Current work

Some little components for a scissor hinge that Tom of Savageworlds fabricated for me using a CNC router and aluminum scraps, after my many (manymany) failed attempts. The bits are 1″ x 1/8″ wide tiny buggers, and will be added into the mech of the hidden dagger for an Altair cosplay. Will be using either tiny nuts and bolts, or a small hollow tube in which to flare the ends to connect them.

current state of a pair of chakrams… will cast the points in rubber, because these things are huge and will be bound to jab someone and/or something.

Happy new year!

January 3rd, 2009

With the new year comes new.. props I guess. Well, works in progress anyway…

Right now I’m working on a few props, namely more progress on Marluxia’s scythe from Kingdom Hearts, a “Souba” from Final Fantasy: Advent children, and a Summoner staff from Final Fantasy 10. I also decided to try my hand at a Keyblade, and a pair of Haseo’s guns from Fate/Stay night, though those two will take a back seat to any incoming commissions of course!

Here’s a couple photo montages of the works in progress!

12-29-08 progress!

and 1-02-08

bah. apologies for the image alignment issues there. I’m not very familiar with this wordpress thing ;p

11-16

November 16th, 2008

OOps, I forgot that I have moderation active on this, and need to approve comments before they appear.. kinda hadn’t checked, since noone really comments here lol..

Anywhoo, a couple commissions in the works, one for a Scythe from Kingdom hearts, and a double bladed Katana from Advent Children.

My belt sander bellied up in a ball of smokey death last week, so we made an emergency run to lowe’s and picked up a new one.. also foudn a scrollsaw that was getting discontinued, so yeah. I have a ghetto budget scrollsaw. it should help with some stuff.

Moving the shop to the new house is finally happening, and have been finding all sorts of wood bits, scrap prop parts, and other miscellany buried in the “toss random stuff in here” boxes. May put some wooden weapons up for sale to help clean them out a bit.

Updates have been made on the Altair cosplay gear (personal project), located here: http://www.fevereon.com/props/altair_cosplay.php

Its mostly done, save for a pouch and a small embellishment, which I have to put on hold for a bit while moving.

Propmaking will pick up in the next couple of weeks, as well as a large overhaul/update to this site.

Couple o’ updates!

July 10th, 2008

well, been working on a few things between the gradual transition to the new home…

Here’s a work in progress of the Fireseal commission.. the handle is built out of a few elements I had made seperately, then assembled onto the main solid shaft.. it makes for cleaner lines. It will be filled with Bondo sanded, cleaned up, and painted :)

And Here’s a work in progress of an Assassin’s Creed cosplay.. My tired but supportive fiance modeled it for me while I laid out the cumberbun and other fittings with pleather. The pleather will be refitted with Leather of course, but no point in fragging perfectly good leather while doing initial fitting/adjustments… Kinda thought the 16 pieces of stabbity he’s totin’ were going to be the hard part.. but I’m coming to realize that its all that danged leatherwork that’s going to be the toughest part!
